DBJ Contract & General Pricing Terms
General Terms:
Quoted price for single-bid projects includes initial consultation,
one proof with two to three layout choices (where appropriate), one set of
client changes, and final artwork. Additional changes will be billed as
extra time. All changes due to our error or omission will be corrected at no
charge to you. Full year contract bids will be quoted and approved by both
parties prior to the start of initial design work.
RUSH Charges: If your deadline requires evening and/or weekend work,
(defined as after 6pm weekdays, Saturday or Sunday, any hours) to meet your
scheduled completion date, these hours will be billed at 1-1/2 times our
contracted rate.
"Work for Hire":
Design By J, LLC does not copyright our work. We are a "work for hire" firm.
What does this mean to you? Simply put, once you pay for a project in full,
you own it. Of course we hope you will stay with our company for many years
to come, however if you move out of the area, or for any other reason decide
to work with someone else, anything you have paid for in full can be dropped
down to disk and sent to you. We do charge a fee of only time spent to pull
up all your projects from backup, organize them onto the media, and ship
them to you for use with anyone you decide to work with.
Final Responsibility:
You will be responsible for final proofreading and will be required
to sign a document stating that the artwork is: ok as is (ready for print
or upload), ok with changes (change, then ready for print or upload), or
additional proof due (charges will incur). Your signature releases Design By
J, LLC from any and all liability in connection with errors or omissions on
your final piece.
Scheduling:
To be decided at time of initial consultation. Missed appointments
are subject to a one hour charge. Please note: due to the tight scheduling
of projects, if you do not meet our mutually determined schedule for
delivering materials to Design By J, LLC we cannot promise that our original
determined completion date will be met.
Payment Terms:
Our first project together will require 1/2 down to begin. You will
be required to pay your job in full within 15 days of invoice, sent when the
project is completed, or a 2% late fee will be imposed. Returned checks will
carry an additional $20.00 fee. All jobs in progress more than 30 days will
require one-half payment of quoted price. Full year contract work will
require quarterly payments (or other payment arrangements agreed upon at
start of contract).
Web Site Design will require 1/2 down before work begins; 1/2 down at final
upload. Web Site Hosting charges vary with services and updates required;
ask about your specific needs.
Final Artwork for Printers:
Your final artwork will be "camera-ready" high quality paper output.
If you need final artwork on disk, you must tell me at our initial
consultation, or extra charges will apply. Disk output (when needed) will be
provided on CD-R. Disk output for jobs that need a ZIP disk require a $14.00
surcharge (unless you provide the ZIP disk). Output to film is available.
This requires 3-4 extra days. One 8-1/2x11 film negative is $18.00.
(Remember you need one negative for each color).
Other Items:
Photos in jobs that will be printed with negatives may be "For
Position Only". Your printer may need the originals of your slides to print
your job. Paper output color separations are included in your quoted price.
All color seps are trapped at .05" unless specified otherwise. Your final
artwork will include a listing of Pantone Color choices made at initial
consultation (does not apply to 4-color work). Artwork cleanup will carry a
minimum 1/2-hour charge.
Printing Services:
A small fee will be charged if you prefer Design By J, LLC to arrange
outside printing services, quote those services, deal directly with printer
and staff, deliver artwork to the printer and approve proofs. You will be
responsible for picking up the printed pieces from the printer. Printing
charges will be separate from Design By J fees. Design By J, LLC assumes no
liability for printers errors.
NOTE: I will keep your jobs on file for a period of 1 (one) year. If your
account has been idle for a period of one year, I will contact you to see if
the files should be purged.
